Hello! How are you doing today? I’m not going to hit my summer writing goal. I gave myself a deadline to finish my novel and it’s become clear that it won’t happen. Not because I haven’t been working hard, I really have, but because I’m getting deeper into everything – how my characters’ lives tie together, their sub-plots, all the research and detail that I want to sink into. I probably could bash out 30,000 words in a couple of weeks, but chasing a word count really isn’t the same as writing. Instead of giving myself a hard time, I’m reassessing my original goal. I want to see the finish line, but I also want to have a brilliant time doing the work. Sometimes we’re in such a rush to get to the end that we don’t always enjoy the process. It’s good to remind myself that it’s the most important part.
